Reputation of Political Parties and Public Trust in the Decision of Choosing candidates for West Java Regional Heads in Karawang Regency



Good society always have a high concern for the interests of the country and the region, one of
which is to participate in the success of regional head elections by giving their voting rights to
one of the candidate pairs who are believed to be able to provide and bring better changes to the
community and the region compared to the previous leadership period and avoid abstention or
abstention in determining the decision to choose a candidate or political party. Party reputation
is one of the people’s considerations in choosing a party that has good performance, is free
from corruption so that it can provide stimulus and encouragement to the community to vote
and believe that the party is able to maintain the mandate given and the low value of trust
given by the community to political parties through the performance given, will affect the
survival of the political party. The purpose of this study is to find out how the reputation of
political parties and public trust in the decision to choose the head of West Java Province
in Karawang regency with the method of using descriptive verification with path analysis
techniques, with respondents is Karawang regency people who have the voting rights as
many as possible 272. The political party reputation variable (X1) is on the agreed scale,
public trust (X2) is on the scale that is quite agreeable and the decision to choose (Y) is on
the agreed scale. The relationship between independent variables, namely the reputation of
the political party (X1) and public trust (X2) shows a correlation of 0.743 (rx1x2). Partial
influence magnitude of political party Reputation variable (X1) and public trust (X2) on the
decision to choose (Y) is 18.5% and 16.5% with the coefficient of determination (Ryx)2 of
35% while the influence of other variables outside the model is 65%.
